What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Science-fiction is full of examples of artificial intelligence, usually with a single objective: the extinction of the human race. However, for the moment we can still sleep soundly. Our Google assistant is not planning (for now) to terminate us in our sleep and it is not sabotaging our work days by eliminating important work appointments from the Calendar app.

Despite the continuous technological progress there is still no software that can compare with the flexibility of the human mind. There is, however, already software that can perform some very specific tasks at the same level of the professionals of certain disciplines or activities. For this reason artificial intelligence is used in limited fields such as medical diagnosis, research engines and voice recognition or writing. There are many different forms of human and animal intelligence. As of the modern day the question is no longer if artificial intelligence can exist, but how it can be defined and in which areas it can be applied.
